doesn't matter what other vendors would do, or what is fair, or even what you "demand". It only matters what the vendor that sold you the wrong part will do.Technically, unless the vendor's policy states otherwise, sending you a free new part is probably all they have to do. If they choose to pay you some amount for the R/R that you will have to do again then that would be a nice gesture. However, determining what the fair amount/time is may be up for debate, especially since you did the work yourself. i.e. perhaps you work slower than a certified mechanic. (just playing devils advocate here). My guess is that unless it's a crazy high amount it's still not going to be enough in your mind if it took you as long as you said it did. It sounds like an unfortunate situation and an honest mistake. Hopefully you and your vendor can come to some mutually agreeable arrangement.
